The new year has begun and there is a lot of buzz in the media about detoxing, setting goals, planning a detox, exercising, eating better, being healthier…… The prospects can be a little overwhelming! The new year does not mean a new you. It is an opportune time to set the calendar to a fresh year and reflect on those things that you may feel you lost track of as the last year came to a close.
While it is important to have goals, it is not helpful to set goals that are to generalized or broad in their spectrum. It is easy to say, "This year I will eat healthier." OR "I am going to exercise more this year." Shifting to a healthier lifestyle is wonderful! These goals are absolutely possible… with better planning.
SMART is a wellness coaching strategy for setting well-defined goals based on attainable parameters. Our wellness coach can help you establish goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. It is important to have some way of monitoring progress so you can feel satisfaction and motivation to keep going.
SMART goals look like this: "I am going to eat 2 more servings of vegetables every day." OR "I will walk for 45 minutes 3 times per week on the treadmill." "I will limit my coffee intake to 1 cup per day instead of 3 cups."
These goals are easy to monitor and realistic in there scope. Write them down. Once the goals have been met with satisfaction, you have established new habits in your daily routine and can reflect back on the year with pride!
